WEEK 15 UK signs film treaty allowing more British-made movies to be shown in China

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/uk-signs-film-treaty-allowing-more-britishmade-movies-to-be-shown-in-china-8980020.html
The treaty will allow Sino-British co-productions to sidestep China's quota system that limits cinemas from showing foreign films.
I am posting this link to this article because as a film lover I would like to watch foreign films more. I think this is a great thing to happen as I feel that also film lovers in China would love to watch more  foreign films. Also a film that everyone can enjoy can unite countries such a Untouchables that was successful in many countries even though the film was in French . This shows that people are able to love a film and understand it in a different language with only the subtitles. I would love for more  foreign films to appear in our cinemas. What's your opinion ?

Carrie Film Review 2013 Considering Repertoire of Elements

2013 Remake
I went to see Carrie the other night and really enjoyed it. The genre of the film as many will know is horror. The film is a remake on the 1976 film that was based on the chilling Stephen King Novel Carrie. I like the storyline although thought it was fair coincidence that the girl who was being bullied accumulated these powers. I also found it had to believe that she would first start her period at 18 but maybe this was something to do with her powers ? I liked the role of he religious nut mother played by  Julianne Moor. The iconography of the film is very traditional to the sub genre  genre of a slasher.  There is lots of blood and weapons. The themes of sacrifice a shown in this film when the pig is killed to get blood to poor on Carrie. The low key lighting reflects the mood.
The setting of the film are typical of the sub genre teen horror in a school.
I liked the film and found that the sound effects and non diegetic music reflected the terrible morbid mood and feelings Carrie was going through.

Julie Walters to be honoured at film awards

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-25200152
Brit actress Julie Walters is to be honoured at film awards. The 63 year old has appeared in many films such as Harry Potter Mamma Mia.
"I don't like the future sewn up. I like an open book - the feeling that anything can happen."

I'm posting this as I love the role Julie Walters played in one of my favourite films Billy Elliot. She was the teacher who taught billy to dance and who encouraged him to pursue his dreams.

WEEK 14 Producers decide to go ahead with planned release of Paul Walker film in two weeks

http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/news/article-2516695/Producers-decide-ahead-planned-release-Paul-Walker-film-weeks.html
I am posting this link as it was an article that interested me. Since the news that Dark Blood would be released in 2012 for people to watch after nearly 20 years after production the film did not get released in 1993 because actor and main star of the film River Phoenix had died from a drug overdose. I think it was great they released the film but that it should have been released in 1993 and the delay shown uncertainty from the film industry. So to now read that Paul Walker who sadly died recently can be seen in a film coming to cinemas makes me happy that actors live on. Maybe the decision for Walkers film to be released was made sooner that Phoenix's gap of 20 years because he died from a car crash.
I think it is in the greatest respect to show Walkers film and am very happy for his fans although may be sad to see him can celebrate his work.
What do you think ?

Which film prop would you most like to own?

Personally I would favour Judy Garland's ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz.
I am posting this link as I love movie props. The thought that a film could have such an impact on someone that they would then want to buy items from the film or even replicas is amazing.

Week 13 Brilliant new IMAX poster for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

http://www.totalfilm.com/news/brilliant-new-imax-poster-for-the-hunger-games-catching-fire
An Odd one!
Wanted to post this to hear what you think of it. Personally I find it intricate as stated a little disturbing as The Hunger Games has been merged with what appears to be statues of cherubs or angels. I cant see any relation to the film or book but OK.I find Donald Sutherland Blind folded puzzling and chills me to the bone. Overall its really weird !!!!!!!!
What do you think?

WHAT DO YOU THINK ART OR MADNESS ?

Ninety years of Disney: in pictures and what I have learned from Disney

I'm a huge Disney fan. In fact I don't think I've met anyone who doesn't love a Disney film. I'm posting this link to a series of picture celebrating Ninety years of Disney. The pictures feature Mr Walt himself Mickey and many other beloved Disney classics from Dalmatians to Little Mermaid, Snow White to Lady and The Tramp. Lovely picture that will bring joy to any Disney fan :)
I think Disney has been so successful over the years as it has always had a wide range of characters from talking fish to Jack sparrow. They also have branched out into Disney Pixar. They are ever bringing out new films and characters that agree with the times but have the feel of a classic with the classic tales of a Disney film that it has built up for itself over the years. Bringing out new films and characters that people of all ages can love hate laugh with or cry with Disney is so unique in how each character has its own story .
My favourite Disney film is beauty and the beast as it has a beautiful message that love is on the inside. The beast in the film is also handsome and is beautiful the way the story can show this. I think Disney films can give good messages to children and this has certainly been a film that ha given me this lovely quality in life to see the beauty in all. This is a strong quality I see in my self enforced by a film. This is certainly proof the influence a film has on somebody but also the influence a Disney film can have.
I love lots of Disney films such as Brother Bear which also has a powerful message to see thing the way others do. This is a quality I have today and am able to sympathize with others.
I love The Little Mermaid. Although with a very bad message involved in the film how Ariel changes her body to be with her dream boy? Uh oh this is something that hasn't changes me but I could see how Disney got a message mixed up maybe it was to say a change is good don't let your parents tell you what to do ? Surely not. Any way I love it.

Of course Disney has not been the sole influence on me in my life as I have learnt all my good qualities from my mum , family and friends but it is evident that Disney has been a good influence in my life. And the moral of the story is I hear you cry ? Live by Disney and live happily ever after ? Not exactly but love Disney be open minded at even a grown up age and enjoy a fairy tale story every once in a while.

CATCHING FIRE EXCLUSIVE !!!!!! GALE AND KATNISS and other ramblings about the movie and competition in China

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a529242/hunger-games-catching-fire-jennifer-lawrence-liam-hemsworth-clip.html

A clip has been released showing Gale and Katniss together talking about a rebellion in district 12.
I'm posting as I'm really excited about the new film coming out based on my fav book Catching Fire. I think its great that Lionsgate are showing lil snippets of the film as it gets us fans excited and also creates a greater hype for the film that is sure to pull in more watchers at the cinemas.
I really hope that its not just the best bits being shown to entice people in because as a true fan of the trilogy of books I have high expectations that have so far been met with bursts of excitement and catching breath cries. I cant wait for Catching Fire which will hit the Reel Cinema in Widnes on the 21st of November. I will be there.

http://www.reelcinemas.co.uk/films/the-hunger-games-catching-fire-f112005.html Book your tickets here.

The Hunger Games Catching Fire will also be competing in China to come out on top over the new film with Sandra Bullock Gravity that will hit cinemas in China at the same time. Personally I'm rooting for The Hunger Games Catching Fire without even watching it as I'm not at all impressed with the idea of watching two people in the depths of space floating around for an hour or two. Not thanks. But with my late trip to the Cornerhouse in Manchester I found that lots of nonsense is welcome in China that British would not take to. A slapstick humour so how will Gravity fair.

Corey Feldman
This is an article about Corey Feldman and how he missed out on E.T. role. I love Corey Feldman and despite all his spikes as I call them I still like him as a person and wanted to publish a post about him. I first watched him in Stand by me when I was 13 and feel in love with him. Since them its been goonies dream a little dream licence to drive the lost boys and on and on. Corey Feldman plays Edgar Frog a vital role in my favourite movie The Lost Boys. Recently Feldman has released a memoir book with tales of his past including the abuse he and fellow actor and best friend Corey Haim suffered. Haim and Feldman were the Corey duo in the 80s and continued to claim fame in later year too. Both had drug issues brought on by the industry they were in. Both starred in The Two Corey's a TV series documenting their lives.

Week 11 Now You See Me Film Review

I recently watched Now You See Me for the second time on DVD
I love this film as some of my favourite actors star in it such as Mark Ruffalo from 13 going on 30 and Woody Harrelson from Cheers and The Hunger Games
Film Plot : Four magicians are drawn together to become the worlds greatest magic act pack. Putting on mind boggling stunts taking money and out doing rich obnoxious men they act as a robin hood in most acts giving to the poor stealing from the rich. All this is  a distraction for the main trick.
I love this film as it has action mystery and amazing actors.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Film Review

Yesterday I watched  film classic Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I never judge a film by its era and I'm really glad I don't as I loved watching this old timer.
Film Plot ; Eldest brother of seven, Adam sets out to find a wife and within the day he is married to the lovely Millie plays by Jane Powell who dreams of the typical marriage life and is not prepared to also look after Adams 6 rough housed brothers. Each show a gentle heart when Milly teaches them how to "court". For everyone that doesn't know this it means dating.
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers really does show its era but at the same time shows that even though its 60th Anniversary next year the emotions and situations in both 1954 and 2013 are the same .
I loved the film because it was funny and a musical.
The film shows early film editing techniques such as fade ins and outs. A lot of dissolve shots were also used to go from one scene to the next.
The set of the film was brilliant and I loved the vast area that was shown in the film of the mountain range.
Russ Tamblyn circa 1950sMy favourite brother was Gideon played by Russ Tamblyn  as he was one of the youngest brothers with a cheeky smile and high spirit.
Milly: Don't you like girls?
Gideon: We ain't never hardly ever seen one.
undefined

Gideon Is also the one to drag Adam to senses near the end of the film with a lot of courage that was the winning punch for me.

Christopher Eccleston had ear issue on Thor

Christopher Eccleston in Thor The Dark World (2013)
http://www.list.co.uk/article/55498-christopher-eccleston-had-ear-issue-on-thor/
This link takes you to an article about Christopher Eccleson's complaints that when he was on set for Thor the ears he had to wear left lots of uncomfortable wax in his ear. I believe this is wrong on the costume departments part as they should make safe sturdy costumes for the actors that will bring in many watchers of the film. Costume is a very important aspect of film looking from a mise en scenes perspective the costumes in Thor are vital to each individual character but I don't think it should be at the cost of an actors health or wellbeing .Do you agree could they have changed any aspects of the ears to make them more safe? The interview is interesting as it includes Christopher Eccleson's own opinion on the matter and even makes a whimsical joke about the inconvenience. A true actor will take the good with the bad In my opinion. What do you think? Without the famous ears I don't think Christopher Eccleson's character would be as scary or true to comics.Could they have been made with another material that would not have been so irritating?I think if it could have been done it would of been!

Depp surprises Sir Christopher Lee with film award

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24600683
I recently posted reporting that Sir Christopher Lee had won an award now I post an article on his response of receiving the award from fellow actor and good friend Johnny Depp. Lee was said to be tearful when accepting the award and this was no doubt because Depp was there to award it. From the article He said of Depp: "He means an enormous amount to me. He is one of very few young actors on screen today who's truly a star.
Also it states Sir Christopher, 91, who described receiving his award as "a great joy", is famed for his villainous portrayals of Bond bad guy Scaramanga and evil wizard Saruman in The Lord of the Rings.
It also includes some other award winners of the  London Film Festival,

Chiwetel Ejiofor defends violent scenes in 12 Years a Slave

Link to full article
I have posted this link as I keep my self updated with news on the soon to be released film 12 Years a Slave. I'm looking forward to watching this film when it is released 24th January 2014.The film is about a man who was sold into slavery in 1841.The article is about how the film has decided to include violent scenes explaining that this was the only way to truly represent slavery. I agree with their choice to include such scenes in the movie if the correct mood and history is created by including these scenes. I believe it is only correct to all those affected by slavery to have the correct story told .It should not be sugar coated for anybody as people must realise the world we live in and its history. To hide this fact would be disrespectful and ignorant and as long as the scenes have been shot in a respectful and tactful way then the violent scenes would not offend but educate and open my mind to the truths that these people lived by.

Classic films to watch this Halloween

I have been composing my own Halloween film list to post soon and have came across this article that has a selection of my favourite Halloween films suggested that I have to post to share with everyone. As it says in the article
"Come the witching hour, there's no better place to be than curled up on your sofa with some Halloween treats and a cushion or two to hide behind.
We've rounded up some top films you should watch this Halloween.
And don't worry - not all of them are scary."
From Hocus Pocus to A Nightmare on Elm Street this gathering of spooks will keep your Halloween celebrations traditional and seasonally correct.
For a great Halloween week follow the link http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/great-films-watch-halloween-6158555 NOW!!!!!
I love Carpenters Halloween starring Jamie Lee Curtis as it is set on my favourite day of the year and is you haven't guessed this from all the posts and clues it is of course the spooktacular themed day with witches goblins and ghosts HALLOWEEN !! This film is great to watch on the night of the 31st as it becomes ever more real to life. I advise not to watch if your baby sitting it may freak you out a little to much!

Week 8 'Doctor Who' 50th: New anniversary trailer airs - watch

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/doctor-who/news/a524878/doctor-who-50th-new-anniversary-trailer-airs-watch.html
Honestly the first half of this trailer looks awesome but then Mr Smith begins to talk who I have never been happy with. I'm very happy to see the BBC are celebrating Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary as I have been a whovian from a very young age enjoying Christopher Eccleston's episodes but my Doctor will always be the amazing David Tennant. I didn't carry on watching when Matt Smith came in but despite the hefty part he will seemingly play in the film I will defiantly be watching . I think it is very important to celebrate such achievement that such a show can withstand time. The article states Doctor Who's 50th anniversary special 'The Day of the Doctor', starring Matt Smith, David Tennant, Jenna Coleman, Billie Piper and John Hurt, will air worldwide on November 23.Im super excited are you ? Top 10 horror movies

Top 10 horror movies theguardian.com Link
October. Halloween is awakening so here's a link to a top 10 list of horror films to watch. Reviewing the list most sound like great October watches to get excited for Halloween and pass my Halloween acceptance radar. With a mix of old and new films the list should keep you jumping sweating and frightened in the weeks to come. For a classic horror take a look at The Shining voted 5th that I find fairly enjoyable and "scarable" for the masses. I personally would not be watching 6th as I don't like the story line and find it an unnecessary one to make a horror film.1st is Psycho ;just make sure its the 1960s version reviewed by Mark Kermode "After half a century of terror, Psycho is still ensuring that no one feels safe in the shower" .Not the 1998 remake that is awful. I trust this list as it is created and published by the guardian a well trusted news source and also includes reviews from well know film critics.

Josh Hutcherson: 'Hunger Games camouflage scene was laughable'

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a524124/josh-hutcherson-hunger-games-camouflage-scene-was-laughable.html
I'm posting this article as I'm always keeping up with all things hunger games. Josh  Hutcherson has now done an interview and has stated "The camouflage of Peeta in the book is not funny, but then when you have me with clay on my face, lying there half dead, and I turn my face to the camera - it's so laughable. It's impossible not to laugh."
I have read the book and watched the film and thought that even thought specific elements of the book were lacking in the film I still love the film. In the book Peeta's survival is very serious ; has you scared and emotionally connected but I have to admit in the film the scene received a blurt of laughs. I think this may be because once a scene has been placed in front of you and from out of your min the magic from the book can fade. When watching again it still has a little giggle but then can be scene as creepy and is slowly scaring me !!
Im surprised such a scene has made it to the cinemas without Josh having a smirk on his face. This just proves how a good actor can bring so much to a film and result in its success.

Week 7 The Vanishing Film Review Includes Spoilers

The Vanishing Starring Kiefer Sutherland
Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock
I watched The Vanishing other night and liked the sound of the film. Then I seen that Kiefer Sutherland was starring in it.I find it hard to hate any film that Kiefer Sutherland is in and The Vanishing is no exception. I loved this film. Family/ Mad man Barney Cousins played by Jeff Bridges is on the hunt for a lady and is more than shocked when he is about to give up his desperate stalker attempts on women when the lovely Diane Shaver played by Sandra Bullock comes along and is intrigued into his car and taken. Diane's boyfriend Jeff Harriman played by Kiefer Sutherland doesn't give up the such on his girlfriend and is broken by her disappearance .This is all until Rita Baker comes along and steals his heart. This upset me personally. How could Sutherland move on so fast? Reminding my self that he is playing Jeff Harriman I continued with the film with an open mind. It seems Jeff moved on but still wanted to know what happened to his love. He soon comes face to face with Barney and gives him a bloody appearance. What would a film with Kiefer Sutherland be without a slice of his hard guy persona ? Jeff even risks his own safety playing the games of the mad man to find out what happened to Diane. The result is chilling and I advice all to watch. Beautifully played my love for Lost Boys star Sutherland is ever growing.

Cloned: The Recreator Chronicles Film Review 2012 Includes Spoilers!!!!

Link for More Info Cloned: The Recreator Chronicles Film Review on IMDB
"Sci-fi with a double-dose of action. Three teenagers stumble upon a secret lab that appears to have spawned genetically superior doppelgangers of each of them, and the clones are out to kill. (2012)"Info from http://horrorchannel.co.uk/shows.php?title=Recreator&episode=292510

I watched this film today on the Horror channel and I enjoyed it. I did not know any of the actors but found them all talented as they tackled the role of doubling up as the clones. The story was a fairly good b movie in my eyes with a few twists and turns that kept it watchable. The ending is shocking as Craig choses clone Tracy who seems to truly love him instead of helping the original Tracy who throughout the film seemed to really dislike each other. I liked the idea behind the film that a scientists experiment could go wrong which would then lead to the disastrous results years later.
I really did love how each character had there own classic characteristics which made the film more unique as the contrast of characters began to get more complex and personal when face to face with their clones. I wouldn't watch this film again as its not a film that could withstand time. I think this because themes in the film are relevant to this era and as the film is only from 2012 can live another day for a few years but will cease to increase in popularity I also think this is because all the actors are unknown. Maybe if they become more famous in the future then Cloned will be revisited and maybe become a greater hit looking back on an actor. This just shows how having a well known liked actor in your film can effect the overall success. I wonder if this film would be more of a success if Tom Cruise was Craig? I think that its just another classic b movie that will be forgotten. What do you think?

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? Film Review Includes Spoilers

A film released on Halloween 1962 is a creepy horror about Baby Jane Hudson played by Bette Davis who is a former child star who torments her crippled sister Blanche Hudson played by Joan Crawford in their house.
Bette Davis as Baby Jane Hudson 1962
"I didn't bring your breakfast, because you didn't eat your din-din!"
"But you *are*, Blanche! You *are* in that chair! "
A terrifying story of hate and loss in the unusual ways WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE is a brilliant film that I love to watch. The film is old so is in black and white. Some IMDB Trivia (According to Bette Davis in her book "This N' That", the film was originally going to be shot in color. Bette opposed this, saying that it would just make a sad story look pretty. ) Runs for 134mins so is for a persistent audience but defiantly one to buy as Bette Davis plays a truly evil character who even serves up her sisters beloved budgie for diner.
(In her book "This N' That", Bette Davis said she had a lot of control over how her makeup should be done for the film. She imagined the older Jane as someone who would never wash her face, just put on another layer of makeup. When her daughter, Barbara Merrill, first saw her in full "Jane" makeup, she said, "Oh, mother, this time you've gone too far". ) From IMDB Link
I enjoy this film because it has a good storyline with constant shocks from Jane. It includes scenes that contrast from humour to sadness that shows Baby Jane now older still singing as a child believing she can make it again. Things intensify as she gets more violent and sinister with her sister Blanche. With an unbelievable ending that you will not see coming in all your wildest thoughts you must must must see WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE ? Kill curiosity and find out!

Murder Mystery with the human flesh loving Werewolf's.Includes some Spoilers

Murder Mystery with the human flesh loving Werewolf's.
From my IMDB Account see my ratings
The format of the "The Beast Must Die" is intriguing allowing the audience to be the detective. I also enjoyed the stopwatch; to make up our minds on who we thought the werewolf was, making us feel very much a part of the story and allowing for a deeper understanding to each character. I wasn't too impressed with the werewolf ,and was hoping for something more mutated than the image of a dog/wolf. On the other hand I did like the unique change from wolf to human, when the identity is revealed as it added to suspense as the image of the wolf disappeared. I liked the way it followed the murder mystery format, and thought it added a historical and chilling twist to the film. Although at times the dark scenes with the wolf were difficult to make out in it only added to the shadiness of the creature further more the mystery of the plot. I would recommend the beast must die to anyone who loves murder mysteries with twists and turns ,and who also has a taste for the human flesh loving Werewolf's.

Week 4 London Film Festival Starts This Week

London Film Festival Starts This Week
I've posted the link to this article about London's 57th film festival as the film Captain Phillips will be screened a film I have discussed on my blog before and I wait in anticipation to see. I think it is great to have the opportunity to see the films in a screening as it also helps celebrate new films with an old festival that celebrates both old and new films. There are still tickets available to the festival which is surprising to me considering that there is such a wide range of films to be screened on the 9th October with 235 feature films and 134 short films from 57 countries all around the world. Surely this would entertain even the fussiest film goer ?

Film villain Lee gets movie honour

Film villain Lee gets movie honour
Sir Christopher Lee to be honoured.
I have posted this article about Sir Christopher Lee as I like him very much as an actor. Starring in many classic horror films such as Dracula I have huge respect for him and in a word he brings the spook into spooktacular being an actor who can truly scare me.Lord of the Rings legend will be honoured by the movie industry with a fellowship from the British Film Institute. He also has a special place in my heart from playing Willy Wonka's dad in the 2005 version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Personally anyone who takes Halloween candy of someone, burns the lollypops ,candy chews ,and chocolate balls with pumpkin wrappers on right in front of them with a grin is the greatest villain of all!

Just finished watching Skyline and I have to say it was awful. Starring Donald Faison from Clueless I was intrigued to see what the film was like as it was a si fi with aliens ,and I love anything to do with the supernatural. Faison plays the role of Terry a happy go lucky funny man who I was fairly thrilled to see appear on my screen from a corny interpretation of an American party. He soon dies .Lacking any kind of storyline or depth the film had very 2d character's.

The ending was horrendously cheesy as they are taken by the aliens and somehow manage to fit in "that kiss". I can imagine Faison was happy to be killed of so soon to escape from such irritating scenes. I feel like crawling to a whole to hide from all si fi films for a long time as this was such a bad version of a classic tale of alien invasion. This was disappointing from both directors who have worked on films such as Titanic and Xmen.

Needless to say Skyline will not be in my DVD collection.

Week 3 Movies for October 2013 Horror and Romance ?

Click here for more information on each film
Horror and romance? In October ?
Keep up to date with the latest films for October. I love using IMDB as It allows me to do this easily and always shows important information on the film such as director actors and reviews. This month lots of films will be on release but one that screams at me is the remake of Carrie based on the novel by Steven King ,directed Kimberly Peirce. Captain Phillips is also a film I look forward to this month that I have discussed in an earlier post also set to be released on October 11th. This month we will also receive a special present from Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger with the film Escape Plan that will be released on October 18th.Directed by Mikael Håfström ,Escape plan is a film about a man who is trapped in an intense prison that he designed and should be the classic action pumped fire jumping fight scare that all action lovers "dig". Romeo and Juliet directed by Carlo Carlei released on October 11th is a shock to me as the classic romance has been remade and released in the most horrific month of the year with Halloween fast moving in.Will Romeo and Juliet be a success ?

October 2013 has a wide genre range from horror to romance with action and history with the October 18th release of 12 Years a Slave. I think the movies in October will be interesting ;predicting non will hit the box office top 10 list of 2013 but certainly include an array of genres in a much controversial month were horror conventions in my opinion should be followed. I'm excited to see the outcome from audience's.

What do you think ?

Can't be a comedy ey? What do you think about Kermode's list? What does makes a film a block buster success ?
A great director Gore Verbinski and a huge budget of $250 million are ones that come to mind yet Lone Ranger defies both. For the wrong reasons!

I've posted this video as trust I Kermode's point of view as a well known film critic, and these points will be great towards the story board we will be doing later on In the year at AS.
